On 4 July 2019, Morgan and Meghan were driving to Oakley, Utah to time a road race. It was 4:50am and they swerved to miss a deer. After nearly getting control back, they rolled multiple times into a very soft field. The field was very wet. The ended up with the 4Runner on its side. Morgan undid their seatbelts and climbed out through the missing windscreen. He helped Meghan get out the sunroof which was also missing. They walked away, but Meghan's neck was very sore. She sat on the side of the road and walked around a little bit. Morgan used his watch to try to connect to his phone to find it. After 10 minutes, he found it on the highway without a scratch on it. Later, they found Meghan's phone on the road also without a scratch. He called us and we left home to meet them. Meanwhile, a driver stopped to check on them. They called an ambulance and when we arrived, Meghan was on a spine board being loaded into the ambulance. Morgan was sore in his upper back, but felt alright at the time. I cleaned up around the car while Adrienne took Morgan in the car and followed the ambulance to the hospital. Since they were going to be timing, there was a lot of equipment in the car. Much of it was not in the car anymore. With how much damaged happened to the car, I realized it was amazing that they were not more severely injured and was grateful they were alive. When I saw the accident, I felt a surprising calmness that everything would be alright.
On the way to the hospital with the equipment in our van, Adrienne called and said they needed to take Meghan to the hospital in Provo in a life flight. From there, we learned of Meghan's broken neck and spinal cord that was shifted where it does not belong. Turns out there was no damage to her spinal cord, but C4 through C6 needed to be fused. The surgery went well and the future looks good!
